Safed musli Chlorophytum borivillianum revisited.
In view of high cost of planting material of safed musli (Chlorophytum borivillianum) (Rs.2.5 to 5.0 lakhs/ha) and projected profitability (Rs.3.5 to 5.0 lakhs/ha), some farmers have taken up its cultivation. But before recommending its large-scale cultivation, further research work needs to be undertaken on war footing for identification of medicinal principles, factors affecting the chemical constituents, establishment of therapeutic value, and development of agrotechnology. The aim of the cultivating safed musli for selling tubers as planting material cannot by itself become an economically viable and sustainable proposition.
